Come fly with us! A common phrase, no doubt, but when it refers to an exciting adventure taking you flying about 300 feet off the ground, some people can definitely say ‘Come fly with us’ and mean it. This flying adventure is known as zip lining but is also well known as canopy tours. When we think about the word canopy, many think of the uppermost layer of branches and leaves in the rainforest where the trees are thick and very high. Often the canopy in forests is more than 100 feet above the ground and has spaces between the trees. Animals living in the canopy often have an adventure of their own as they fly, glide or jump from one tree to another. Our world is a beautiful place and to see it at its best often means taking one of those canopy tours where we have to fly, glide or jump just like the rainforest animals.
Canopy tours or zip lining adventures are becoming one of the fastest growing ecotourism adventures for people who want excitement and thrills. Today canopy tours can be found worldwide with one to be found in Newfoundland. An amazing attraction found on the west coast of Newfoundland, canopy tours or zip lining tours are located not far from another great attraction, Gros Morne National Park – about a 90 minute car drive. No matter the time of year when visiting Gros Morne, drop by Marble Mountain Ski Resort and inquire about canopy tours.
What exactly is involved in canopy tours? Well it is an experience like no other. From Marble Mountain Ski Resort you will be driven to the top of the zip line which is part way up the east side of Marble Mountain and above Steady Brook Falls. From the top of the zip line to the bottom you will have switched onto nine different zip lines that are about a total of 2000 feet long and about 285 feet high. The zip lines are cables stretching from a high elevation to a lower elevation. A harness is attached to a pulley which is attached to the cable. Wearing the harness, you will step off a landing and the canopy tours begin. Gravity will propel you along the cable from the higher landing to the lower one.
After your visit to Gros Morne National Park, the canopy tours available at Marble Mountain Ski Resort will top off your visit to western Newfoundland. From top to bottom of the zip line, you will experience the ultimate zip tour of the Humber Valley. At each of the landings, you will get the exhilarating sensation of flying through the air and the panoramic views before you will be awe inspiring. Sights, sounds and feelings from the canopy of the zip line will be the ultimate adventure – travelling above the trees, through the trees, and over a beautiful thunderous waterfall cascading over the rocks into the Steady Brook Falls gorge. Take a break on one of the landings and experience the breathtaking beauty of the town of Steady Brook and the Humber River. Breathe and capture this scene in your memory and with your camera!
