On the west coast of Newfoundland, adventure seekers will find abundant opportunities for activities that will be out of this world in beauty, challenge, and adventure. And suitable for the whole family! Searching for an adventure appropriate for our family, we were curious about the high ropes course located at the base of Marble Mountain in Steady Brook, Newfoundland. Our family decided to investigate this obstacle course and to our amazement our daughters and son were thrilled at the prospect of being challenged to traverse all three levels of the course to complete what they called their tree top adventure.
To conquer the course and reach the summit of our tree top adventure, we had to face increasing heights and difficulty. We would have to rely on ourselves as well as each other for motivation and courage. Walking on suspended swaying bridges, holding on to moving ropes, stepping on tires swinging in vertical and horizontal positions, standing and resting on short peg footholds projecting from vertically hanging poles are challenges which tested not only our physical strength but also our mental strength. On reaching the top of what is called the Spider Challenge, approximately fifty feet in the air, a breathtaking spectacle, alive with beauty, was before us!
Witnessing a truly beautiful sight, the panoramic view of the Humber Valley was a tree top adventure in itself. From the top, we saw ourselves surrounded by trees. Holding our breaths as we looked down the course, we saw people like spiders as they manoeuvred through the exhilarating obstacle course. The breathtaking south view offered Marble Mountain; to the southeast the mist rose from the Steady Brook Falls which can be seen at a closer view by zip lining. Looking to the north, we experienced the exhilaration and breathtaking beauty of the town of Steady Brook and the Humber River. In fall, the spectacular autumn colors are a painter’s palette. The top of the course offers a great opportunity to witness the majesty of the mighty moose whose appearance, if you are lucky, will leave you amazed.
What goes up must come down! Well, the tree top adventure is not over until you navigate your way down the Spider Challenge. OR you might like to have a quick adrenaline rush as gravity propels you along a zip line over a small pond onto solid ground.
