Visit Corner Brook and the Surrounding Area This Summer!
Arriving in Corner Brook, I marvelled at how pretty the small city—with its hills, mountains, ocean, and rivers—was. I knew that the city offered great outdoor activities and we couldn’t wait to get started on our holiday—especially our children! Our plans for the week in this beautiful area included hiking, canoeing, a little shopping, some sightseeing, and best of all, going on an exciting adventure: a canopy tour just outside Corner Brook, near Marble Mountain in nearby Steady Brook.
We spent one of our days in Corner Brook taking a drive up to Cook’s Lookout, which turned out to be an educational opportunity for our children. Cook’s Lookout is a memorial site dedicated to the famous explorer and surveyor, Captain James Cook, who came to Newfoundland several times to survey the coastline from 1763 to 1767. Cook’s Lookout offers beautiful views of the city and the Bay of Islands. The children enjoyed the spectacular views as they ran around the partially fenced in area. Making our way down over the roads, we headed downtown for lunch at Sorrento’s, for their great pizza. After lunch we explored along the Corner Brook Stream Trail, where the children delighted in spotting swans and ducks, feeding them with pieces of bread. Across the road from Margaret Bowater Park was the city’s outdoor swimming pool, where the children made quite a splash on account of the good weather!
If you want a thrilling experience for yourself or your whole family, taking a canopy tour on the zip line near Marble Mountain in Steady Brook will be an adventure of a lifetime. We purchased our tickets at Marble Mountain Resort, before being transported to the top of the zip line to begin our tour on the east side of Marble Mountain and above Steady Brook Falls. After the workers had ensured we were all safe and buckled up, we went soaring in the air for an afternoon of fun—about 285 feet above the ground! As we moved from one zip line to another—nine different lines in total—we were given a spectacular view of the Humber Valley region. The excitement as we flew through the air over Steady Brook falls, making our way to the bottom, left our blood pumping rapidly; it was the ride of a lifetime.
A visit to Corner Brook and a canopy tour at the zip line near Marble Mountain made for one unforgettable holiday for our family!
