Summer Arts Entertainment
With its vibrant arts community, what to do in Corner Brook this summer is not a question to ask. Operating in Corner Brook and Woody Point in Gros Morne National Park, the Gros Morne Summer Music event began early July and runs until August 30, 2015 with more than sixty five presentations. The venues are the Arts and Culture Centre in Corner Brook, the new Rotary Arts Centre located in City Hall and Swirsky’s on Broadway. Another venue takes you about an hour and a half drive outside Corner Brook, to the St. Patrick’s Church venue in Woody Point. GMSM program offers everything from classical music, the music of Disney, traditional Newfoundland music at the St. Pat’s venue, celebration of the stories of Woody Point following World War 1 and Corner Brook at the end of the railway era in 1988.
Now entering its seventh season, Stage West Theatre Festival has been in full swing since July 2 and runs until July 31 at the Rotary Arts Centre in Corner Brook’s City Hall with something for young theatre buffs – the Little Stage West kids show that began on July 12 and runs until July 29. Bring the kids to the Majestic Lawn (weather permitting) to see Newfoundland versions of The Three Little Pigs and Rapunzel.
Take in one or more of Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador’s nine shows in Cow Head at the Warehouse Theatre, just a two hour drive from Corner Brook in beautiful Gros Morne National Park. Those shows form the Gros Morne Theatre Festival, a branch of Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador.
An hour drive west of Corner Brook is the town of Stephenville where the 37th season of Stephenville Theatre Festival opens on July 17th and runs until August 16th. Laugh til you cry and break out into song in many of those performances offered at the Stephenville Arts and Culture Centre.
The Great Outdoors Entertainment
With your evenings filled, discover what to do in Corner Brook during the day. Two of the activities not to be missed happen at Marble Mountain just ten minutes drive from Corner Brook. Enjoy a morning or afternoon zip lining over the Steady Brook falls and, suspended about 300 ft. above the ground, witness amazing scenery of Marble Mountain and the Humber Valley. Want to know more about what to do in Corner Brook this summer? Well, if you want to challenge yourself physically and mentally, then take the Spider Challenge. This is a high ropes course located at the base of Marble Mountain where you will walk on suspended swaying bridges, hold on to moving ropes, step on tires swinging in vertical and horizontal positions, stand and rest on short peg footholds projecting from vertically hanging poles – all in the name of reaching fifty feet in the air to the top of the ropes course. Take your camera because the view at the top will be spectacular.
