A Campground is a Great Place to Experience Gros Morne Adventures This Summer!
Western Newfoundland is considered a campers’ paradise! If you are searching for adventurous things to do in Newfoundland this summer, why not go camping in Gros Morne National Park? What an awesome place to explore as you will find adventures around every corner!
Enjoy the many Gros Morne adventures while staying in one of the five National Park campgrounds, all of which are unserviced. You will find privately operated, fully serviced campgrounds in the communities of Glenburnie–Birchy Head–Shoal Brook, Norris Point, Rocky Harbour and Cow Head. Gros Morne National Park has over two hundred drive-in campsites offering fireplaces, kitchen shelters, flush toilets, and showers. Trout River, Green Point and Shallow Bay campgrounds even have wireless internet access.
Take Route 431 to Trout River and enjoy the Trout River Campground. Here you can set up your own tent or stay in luxury in a new oTENTik, which is part tent and part cabin built on a raised wooden floor and come equipped with beds and furniture. When it comes to adventurous things to do in Newfoundland, Trout River offers some of the best opportunities for those adventures. Trout River offers an excellent location to explore the Tablelands, hike to the sea at Green Gardens, get spectacular views of Bonne Bay from Lookout Hills and/or for a whole family adventure visit and explore the many exhibits at the Discovery Centre in Woody Point.
Also on Route 431, find the Lomond Campground with 29 campsites, 4 of which are located near the beach. If your idea of Gros Morne adventures includes fishing, boating and kayaking, then this open, grassy campground is the place for you anytime between mid-May and mid-October. Enjoy the boat launch, playground, showers, swimming, hot water, and fire pits for those nights of wiener roasts and smores treats.
More great Gros Morne adventures await you in Berry Hill Campground located about four kms north of Rocky Harbour on Route 430. This campground, the largest one in the park, has 69 campsites, two of which are group camping sites. Most of the sites are wooded sites and a few are reserved for oTENTiks. This is a great campground for easy Gros Morne adventures for the family as it is close to the swimming pool, the Visitor Information center and the Federal Heritage Building, the Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse which was built in 1897.
About 12 kms north of Rocky Harbour, another opportunity to experience some of the adventurous things to do in Newfoundland presents itself at Green Point Campground which is open all year round. With its 31 unserviced sites you will have access to oTENTiks, a beach, great hiking trails, spectacular sightseeing, kitchen shelter, fireplace, picnic tables, and toilet facilities.
Another campground sure to catch your attention is on Route 430 in Cow Head where you will find Shallow Bay Campground. With about 69 campsites, including some oTENTiks, you will find lots of things to do for the family including the beach and a playground. Not too far away are Western Brook Pond, hiking trails, sand dunes, and fishing opportunities. Enjoy fireplaces, kitchen shelter/picnic tables, running water, showers, and very nearby in Cow Head Summer Theatre.
