If coming to the province by way of the North Sydney-Port aux Basques ferry and you want to enjoy one of the best attractions, the great outdoors, concentrate on the west coast around Marble Mountain and the Humber Valley. In winter, Marble Mountain is a well-known downhill skiing destination but year round the Marble Mountain area envelopes all the Newfoundland tourist attractions you might want to discover.

1. Take a hike up Marble Mountain. See the Steady Brook Falls. Watch for moose that occasionally make their way across the mountain.
2. For the thrill of a lifetime, go zip lining. Feel the thrill of flying about 285 above ground. Get your tickets at Marble Mountain Resort.
3. At the base of Marble Mountain, challenge yourself on the high ropes course called The Spider Challenge. At the top, approximately fifty feet in the air, take in the breathtaking view of the Humber Valley.
4. Stroll through the town of Steady Brook, drop into one of the café/restaurants for lunch or dinner. Go shopping for some outdoor apparel or Newfoundland keepsakes.
5. Go canoeing or kayaking on the Humber River.
6. Why not enjoy salmon fishing on the Humber River? A fishing license is required!
7. Drive one and a half hours to Gros Morne National Park and do some hiking. Take your camera!
8. Take in an evening of drama, dinner theatre and music at the Gros Morne Theatre Festival in the town of Cow Head.
9. For an evening of traditional, classical music, jazz, blues, choral music and musical theatre, go to Woody Point in Gros Morne or drive to Corner Brook and be entertained at the Gros Morne Summer Music Festival.
10. Explore the city of Corner Brook. Do some hiking, walking, caving, shopping, boat tours on the Bay of Islands and visit the museum to get a feel for the city.
