Explore Western Newfoundland And Marble Mountain Resort!
With its friendly people, colourful landscape, spectacular scenery, and easy access to the outdoors, Newfoundland has become a major eco-tourism destination in Canada. Tourists who are seeking adventure travel need look no further than the west coast of the province. If out-of-province tourists are arriving by way of the ferry to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland, your adventure travel experience begins as you journey from the ferry and explore the west coast. Nestled in the heart of the Humber Valley near the city of Corner Brook, you will find one of the best kept secrets in Atlantic Canada – Marble Mountain Resort. Whether you arrive in summer or winter, Marble Mountain Resort offers you an adventure travel experience that totally satisfies your needs.
An adventure travel experience like no other in eastern Canada is what I experienced at Marble Mountain Resort this winter. Everyone recognizes that Marble Mountain Resort just east of Corner Brook rests in the snowbelt of Newfoundland and is a major downhill ski destination. As well, Marble Mountain Resort is the door to some awesome snowmobiling giving you a great winter adventure. If adventure travel during the summer is your goal, there’s a long list of thrilling activities to get your blood racing while in and around Marble Mountain Resort in Steady Brook, Newfoundland.
About a seven or eight minute drive from Marble Mountain Resort, our group of adventure travellers led by experienced guides was taken through the Corner Brook caves. Wearing our helmets and headlights we spent a few hours exploring the geology of the caves, the different passages and the underground stream which is a branch of the Corner Brook stream. On other occasions we went sailing with friends at the Bay of Island Yacht Club and have taken tours of the Bay of Islands on the tour boats at the yacht club.
Rent a canoe or kayak if you don’t have your own and get close to nature while out on the rivers and ponds, none of which are far from Marble Mountain Resort. Get out on the rivers and do a bit of salmon fishing. The Humber River just a short distance from Marble Mountain Resort is an ideal area to try your hand at catching a salmon or two.
Probably the most adrenaline pumping activity anyone who is seeking adventure travel can find lies right at Marble Mountain Resort. One of those adventurous activities takes you zip lining where you go flying about 285 ft. above Steady Brook falls. Summer or winter the adventure traveller can enjoy zip lining; all you have to do is go into Marble Mountain Resort, purchase your ticket and from here you will be taken up the mountain to a morning or afternoon of pure enjoyment. After you have finished zip lining and you want to physically and mentally challenge yourself even further, look into taking the three-storey high ropes obstacle course called the Spider Challenge at the base of Marble Mountain. For an afternoon of excitement and exhilaration, challenge yourself to reach the top of the Spider Challenge and travel through a series of obstacles, jumping, climbing, and stopping to admire the spectacular view of the Humber Valley.
