When travelling around Newfoundland, high on our list is western Newfoundland, in particular what to do in Corner Brook. No matter the season, there is a ton of great exciting things to do in Corner Brook. Conveniently located, it is easy to reach a great ski destination in winter, a World Heritage site any season of the year and a rich vibrant arts community any time of the year. Two airports approximately one hour away add to Corner Brook’s attraction for visitors who come from “far away”!
What to do In Corner Brook is really a matter of choice! In summer we have hiked most of the trails in and around the city. Take a leisurely stroll along the Corner Brook Stream trail which runs through the city, taking you through woods, pass the beautiful Glynmill Inn, and feed the ducks and the swans in the Glynmill Inn Pond. Our teenage children love photography which is one of the great things to do in Corner Brook. The hikes up Three Bear Mountain and up to Cooks Lookout are fairly easy and offer spectacular panoramic views of Corner Brook. A short distance away we often hiked the Massey Drive Tippings Pond Trail. Whether it was the hike around the pond or a chance to leisurely canoe the easy waters of the pond, our children found some of the entertaining things to do in Corner Brook.
In winter when what to do in Corner Brook may seem limited, we spent full weekends on the hill. Yes, Marble Mountain Ski Resort is just a seven or eight minute drive from Corner Brook and we skied powder, carved snow and worked the moguls from opening to closing time. Another of the exciting things to do in Corner Brook is an adventure fairly new to us but one which our children took to like ducks to water – ziplining! Whether we visit in summer or winter, ziplining near Marble Mountain Resort is at the top of the list for a great outdoor adventure. In summer, the children pleaded to do the obstacle course, the Spider Challenge, located near Marble Mountain Resort.
When considering what to do in Corner Brook, we take advantage of the location of Corner Brook. Located in the Bay of Islands, we often jumped on a tour boat at the Bay Of Islands Yacht Club and sailed out the bay where again our ‘shutter bugs’ shot views of the many communities lying on the shores of the Bay Of Islands as well as the large rock, Wee ball, standing out of the ocean. We were often treated to the magic of the whales inhabiting the waters near Corner Brook.
Well known for being a vibrant arts community, we take in many of the artistic things to do in Corner Brook and surrounding area. Enjoy a night at the Annual Gros Morne Theatre Festival or the Gros Morne Summer Music Festival in Gros Morne National Park, about a two hour drive from Corner Brook. In the past, we have driven one hour south of Corner Brook to Stephenville to enjoy an evening at the Stephenville Theatre Festival. If in the area from May 15 – 24, 2015, enjoy an evening of music, storytelling and hiking at the Trails Tales Tunes Festival in Gros Morne National Park in Norris Point.
