Looking for an Exhilarating Way to End the Summer? Try an Obstacle Course or an Adventure Hike!
Before summer is over and the colder weather sets in, take advantage of some exciting outdoor activities! Even as fall arrives, the weather can be very nice and a very good time to take part in the excitement of outdoor pursuits. On the west coast of Newfoundland, you will have excellent opportunities to challenge your mind and body with awesome outdoor physical adventures. These adventures range from completing an obstacle course near Marble Mountain, about a seven to eight minute drive from Corner Brook, to your choice of exhilarating hiking, spectacular scenery, amazing canoeing or kayaking, and exciting ocean tours with a great chance to see magnificent marine wildlife in Gros Morne National Park.
You may have participated in obstacle courses where you had to get down and dirty in the mud and the dirt; this is not the case at the obstacle course found near Marble Mountain. These obstacles are located on a high ropes course called the Spider Challenge, taking you as high as fifty feet into the air! To conquer the course, participants have to face three levels of increasing heights and difficulty. The course asks participants to reach deep inside themselves and find their courage as they negotiate walking on suspended swaying bridges, holding on to moving ropes, stepping on tires swinging in vertical and horizontal positions, and standing and resting on short peg footholds projecting from vertically hanging poles.
If you want to continue with your exhilarating thrill-meter set to high, a trip to the Northern Peninsula will give you Gros Morne adventures not to be missed. Two of the most adventurous hikes in Gros Morne National Park include hiking the spectacular Gros Morne Mountain and also Green Gardens, both of which can take six to seven hours to hike. After a six to seven hour strenuous trek to the top of the rounded, flat top Gros Morne Mountain, the ancient geological wonder surrounding you, including the view of Ten Mile Pond, will be jaw-dropping. The coastal views from the Green Gardens trail are spectacular. An awesome Gros Morne adventure takes you to the Tablelands in the southern part of Gros Morne, between Woody Point and Trout River, where a geology lesson awaits you. The ‘alien-like landscape’ of the 260 million year old piece of rock called the Tablelands reveals a bare-naked reddish-brown moon-like mountain created when tectonic plates collided. The contrasting colourful landscape of the Green Gardens hiking trail opposite the Tablelands is a display of nature at her best.
More Gros Morne adventures await you as you set out on an ocean tour in Bonne Bay or take a boat tour of Western Brook Pond where you will experience more spectacular and breathtaking scenery around this ancient fiord. Interested in more Gros Morne adventures on the water? Well, try out sea kayaking! Depending on your expertise, take one of the several guided sea kayaking trips or go on your own and experience beautiful Bonne Bay and the many communities in the area. Watch for the whales often seen in the bay!
